During medical school I was having trouble learning pharmacology, specifically all the drugs,
their mechanism of action, and contraindications. I experimented with several learning
methods all to which none really helped me learn. It wasn’t until I stumbled across “The
Learning Pyramid” where I realized I was employing all passive learning strategies. Practice has
a 75% retention rate with respect to information. Practice is the same as active game play.
Teaching others has a 90% retention rate. This means by actively playing the game and teaching
others during game play learners can expect to retain between 75-90% of the information.
